About
Chatou (French pronunciation: [ʃatu] ) is a commune in the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France region in northern France. Chatou is a part of the affluent suburbs of western Paris and is on the northwest side of the Seine river about 14 km (9 mi) from the city's centre. It is on the departmental border with Hauts-de-Seine, which follows the Seine.
It is part of the Pays des Impressionnistes, who used to paint there. Pierre-Auguste Renoir described it as the "prettiest spot near Paris".
